Jake and Jamie Hyland are still recovering from serious injuries after the young couple were forced to race out of their Okanogan County property with their baby, due to wildfires that raged in Eastern Washington. Their baby did not survive.

In all, wildfires have burned more than 3 million acres of land in the Golden State so far this year, and fire season, typically in October, hasn't even started yet. 

To some, it seemed like an apocalypse and many wondered, "what happens next?" 

Others around the Bay Area also documented hazy horizons, red suns and gray skies -- all the result of the raging wildfires burning around California, which as of this week had scorched a record-setting 2.3 million acres of earth

The Pasadena woman widely credited for popularizing gender reveal parties wants people to stop after learning the El Dorado fire in Yucaipa was sparked by a smoke-generating pyrotechnic device used at a gender reveal party.

The 300,000-plus acres that have burned in Washington state over the past 24 hours is more than double the total acreage that burned in the state last year. 

California is experiencing a record-breaking fire season. Fire officials said Tuesday that in 2020, wildfires have torched more than 2.2 million acres across the state, surpassing the 1.96 million acres burned in all of 2018.

Nearly every structure in a small town in eastern Washington state was destroyed in a raging wildfire on Monday as weather conditions have allowed blazes to grow across the Pacific Northwest.

Cal Fire officials did not identify who hosted the party and if the hosts will be held responsible for the fire. 

Juliana Park was one of the hundreds of campers who were forced to rush from the popular forest because of an explosive Creek Fire that erupted over the weekend and was burning near Shaver Lake, Huntington Lake and Big Creek in the rugged foothills of eastern Fresno County.

In the past two days, evacuation orders were lifted for at least 50,000 people in the San Francisco Bay Area and wine country, officials with the state fire agency, Cal Fire, said Thursday evening. At their peak, some 170,000 people were under evacuation orders.

Cal Fire Operations Chief Mark Brunton called the act "saddening" and said it's the last thing crews should have to experience while they're battling out of control fires with limited resources.

“But the forest is not gone,” Laura McLendon said. “It will regrow. Every old-growth redwood I’ve ever seen, in Big Basin and other parks, has fire scars on them. They’ve been through multiple fires, possibly worse than this.”

The Santa Cruz fire is one of three “complexes,” or groups of fires, burning on all sides of the San Francisco Bay Area. All were started by lightning.
