Hometown Hero: Chaplain Alan Wright

This is the ninth year Alan Wright will be team captain for the Swim Across America team in North Texas. He's a chaplain at the Sammons Cancer Center in Dallas. He knows a great deal about hope.

Hometown Hero: Riya Reddy

16-year-old Riya Reddy loves The Perot Museum. She was 10 years old the first time she went there. The trains and the dinosaurs were fantastic and turned her on to science.

Hometown Hero: Glenn Lacy

Native Texan Glenn Lacy is 99 years young.  For 16 years, he's volunteered at Baylor Scott & White Health in Grapevine.  Once a week, he's behind the desk at Tower 2 greeting visitors and giving them information. He also escorts them to patients’ rooms and delivers flowers. 

Hometown Hero: Gerry Dalton

Gerry Dalton loves helping to keep North Texans safe. He's not a police officer or a firefighter. He's a R.A.C.E.S. operator: a trained storm spotter with the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service.

Hometown Heroes: The Heckman family

Sandy and Bob Heckman celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in October. They have two daughters and five grandchildren.

Hometown Hero: Miss Mary

Mary Hinton lives in Cedar Hill with her husband, Tony. They'll celebrate 30 years of marriage in March.

When Emma Ann Guillen was 8 years old, her grandfather, Mikel Long, died of a heart attack.

Hometown Hero: Michael Kinsey

17-year-old Michael Kinsey loves being a Boy Scout. He got into scouting as a 7-year-old Tiger Cub.

Hometown Hero: Keun Smith

Keun Smith is 2007 graduate of Red Oak High School. The 28-year-old has volunteered for almost five years at Methodist Charlton Hospital. 

Hometown Heroes: Nancy Love

Nancy Love has been a teacher in the Fort Worth ISD for 30 years. She loves what she does but had to leave the classroom in 2014 for treatment for ovarian cancer at Texas Oncology.  After chemo she's in remission and this survivor is giving back.

Klyde Warren Park in Dallas will hold a dance-a-thon for those who donate to the Unite Dallas Relief Fund this Friday.

Hometown Heroes: Charlton Reads

When children go to Methodist Charlton Medical Center for a wellness exam, they talk about books and reading first.  The idea is to care for the child on a social and academic level, as well as medical.

Hometown Hero: Paws with Partners

Hospital heroes on four legs -- that's Paws With Partners. Three days a week for two-hour shifts, dog therapists visit patients and relieve stress, fear and anxiety.

Hometown Hero: Clarence Griffith

‘Forever young’ is how many describe Clarence Griffith. The 103-year-old Dallas man is a "Caring Hearts" volunteer at Baylor Dallas.

Hometown Hero: Megan Solis

Megan Solis thought she wanted to go into business or become a lawyer, but education claimed her heart.. The Richardson native attended Trinity Christian Academy from 4th grade to graduation. She loved her teachers at the Addison school and now she's one of them.

Hometown Heroes: Frankie Cortez

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital has more than 200 junior volunteers this summer. They work in all areas of the hospital and the teenagers gain valuable job and life experience.
