The Chalk Mountain Fire has burned more than 6,700 acres, destroying multiple homes and other properties. One woman has been working nonstop to help those battling the flames even as her family’s properties have burned.

This long stretch of hot weather is hard on those who are homebound and may not be able to seek out cooling supplies. That's where volunteers become an important lifeline.

The first damage report from the large wildfire in Somervell County shows that more than a dozen homes were destroyed.

Firefighters are still struggling to get control of this 500-acre wildfire near Possum Kingdom Lake that burned down several homes. As of Tuesday, evacuations are only voluntary.

The pastor of Our Calling says he knows of at least two homeless people who have died from chronic heat exposure. Volunteers are going out to try and get these folks off the streets. Other organizations like the Visiting Nurse Association of Texas are doing their part to help our most vulnerable residents stay cool.

The speed reduction will be in place until 9 p.m. Tuesday and again Wednesday between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The Chalk Mountain Fire began Monday afternoon and has already burned about 4,000 acres near Glen Rose. It is only about 10% contained.
