Josh Johns

Meteorologist

Meteorologist Josh Johns joined the Fox4 Warn Weather team in February of 2026, following more than 6 years down the road at KXXV in Waco and a decade of forecasting Texas weather.

Josh is no stranger to North Texas, having grown up in Johnson county, and is excited to be home, helping keep friends and family safe. According to his mother, Josh's fascination of the weather started before he was even born. When Josh was in his Mother's womb, a tornado actually picked up the pickup truck his Mom and Dad were driving west of Fort Worth and moved it a few feet! Josh then tried to expedite his entry into the world, sending his Mother into labor when there were thunderstorms! As a kid, Josh actually grew up afraid of the frequent spring-time storms in North Texas that brought hail, winds and tornadoes. Seeing an opportunity to "teach the fear" out of her son, Josh's mother decided to educate him on the weather and storms, and his fascination blossomed! Josh adored the Meteorologists on the TV that forecasted the weather and kept him safe during severe storms. His love for maps propelled his grandfather to purchase a laminated map of Texas, and Josh would use expo markers to draw tornado and severe storm warnings and broadcast them at the kitchen table. On March 28, 2000, Josh's mother's alma mater, Calvary Cathedral Academy, was hit by an F-3 tornado along with much of Downtown Fort Worth. Josh remembers seeing the storm on the way home from baseball practice, and was glued to the TV during the coverage following. Anytime there was a storm, or an alert popped up on screen, Josh wanted to see the radar!

His fascination only grew as he went into middle and high school, obtaining his Amateur radio license so he could be an official SKYWARN storm spotter for Johnson county. Josh would report what was happening in his area to the county emergency managers, who he keeps relationships with to this day. While at Cleburne high school, Josh was a trainer for the football team, and active in the Cleburne FFA. It's during this time in the FFA where Josh developed many of the communication skills he uses today, and he is thankful for the wonderful teachers he had!

Following graduation, Josh knew exactly what he wanted to do for college. Josh packed up his bags and headed southeast to College Station to study Meteorology at Texas A&M! Josh had some academic challenges early on, and is thankful that the professors in the Meteorology department helped him to navigate these and succeed. He served as an officer in the Texas A&M Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, even serving as Vice President his senior year! Josh was also active in the Texas A&M Weather Broadcasting group, providing radio weather updates, and in the Texas Aggie Storm Chasers!

Josh's first stop after graduation was in the Rio Grande Valley with KRGV-TV. Josh learned a lot about a totally different weather pattern than he was accustomed to, and tried some great food! Unfortunately, things didn't work out there, and Josh returned home to teach kids at Cleburne ISD while looking for another opportunity in Meteorology. He was given the opportunity to cover a few weekends in Wichita Falls at KFDX-TV and that ultimately led to an opportunity with KLST-TV in San Angelo!

Josh started as a weekend Meteorologist at KLST-TV, tracking tornadoes and mean storms with near 100mph winds at times on air! After a year and a half, he was promoted to Chief Meteorologist at KSAN-TV, a sister station also in San Angelo. Josh spent a year and a half covering severe storms in the Concho Valley. In May 2019, a supercell storm moved through San Angelo with an EF-2 tornado during the early hours of the morning. Josh and his team were tracking this storm as it moved in, up until the time he felt the pressure drop in the studio. He quickly moved his staff to safety and continued to talk on air as the tornado passed only a couple blocks from the studio! Shortly after that, he was given an opportunity to move closer to home in Waco at KXXV-TV.

Josh started as a weekend Meteorologist at KXXV before being promoted to morning Meteorologist where he was at for the last 5 years. While at KXXV, Josh was always out in the storm during storm coverage in their chase vehicle. He travelled all over Central Texas reporting tornadoes live on air, including one where you could see all the way up into the heart of the storm! He's excited to bring this knowledge combined with his knowledge of North Texas to Fox4 to assist the team in keeping you safe.

In his spare time, Josh loves hanging with his Blue Heeler Dog, Jade and checking out local Texas Music Concerts! Josh loves to meet new people and know how the weather impacts them, so be sure to say hi if you see him out and about!
