Thieves fail 3 times to steal ATMS

Police are investigating three smash and grab attempts in Dallas early Friday morning.

The first one happened around 4:30 a.m. on Skillman Street in North Dallas. Thieves smashed into a Family Dollar store and tried to take an ATM, but failed.

Then about 15 minutes later thieves wearing masks tried to take an ATM at a nearby Shell gas station. They broke through a window at the store with a brick.

An employee saw what was happening and hid. Security video shows the three men wrestling with the ATM.

"They tried to pull it out of the ground, started shaking it to hit it. They used a fire extinguisher, but it's really strong," said Fadi Yousef, the store manager.

Then just before 6 a.m., thieves wearing masks smashed into The Rustic on Howell Street near CityPlace. Again they were unable to get to the ATM.

Police are trying to find out if the crimes are connected.

At one of the locations a suspect dropped a cap and another dropped a lighter.
