Robbery suspect shot by Fort Worth police as employee hid inside store cooler

A robbery suspect was shot by a Fort Worth police officer Sunday morning inside a convenience store.

Fort Worth police were called to the Quick Way Food Store on E. Rosedale Street around 3:45 a.m. When they arrived, they saw the suspect with appeared to be a rifle, police said.

An employee was hiding inside a cooler in the store. Police set up a perimeter around the area and told the suspect to surrender several times over the public address system, police said.

The man raised his weapon several times toward officers. One of the officers fired a single shot and hit him, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital and his condition is not known.

The Fort Worth Police Department Internal Affairs Section will do an investigation. The officer who fired the shot is on administrative leave.
