Nurse injured in elevator accident at JPS Hospital moved from ICU

The nurse injured in an elevator accident at John Peter Smith Hospital last month has been moved from the hospital's intensive care unit.

Carren Stratford has been moved to a "step-down" unit, according to her attorney, Kern Lewis.

Lewis said Stratford is conscious and alert, and mouthed "I love you" to a family member.

On Jan. 20, Stratford was getting on the elevator when it continued to rise. When she put her right foot on the elevator, it threw her off balance. The elevator kept rising and then crushed her.
