NBA star Kevin Love inspires others by opening up about struggles with mental health

Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love is a five time all-star and an NBA champion. But recently he revealed he’s been facing-off against something besides other NBA players: struggles with his mental health.

Love wrote an article in the Players’ Tribune, describing a panic attack that caused him to leave a game and the fear and confusion he had because of it.

Love wrote that at first he thought admitting he needed help was a sign of weakness and that seeking help for mental health was something other people did, but not him. Love now realizes he was wrong and wants to help others know that.

As an introduction to the article, Love tweeted, “I’ve never been comfortable sharing much about myself. I thought about mental health as someone else’s problem. I’ve realized I need to change that.”

People are listening to what Love has to say. His article has already been shared thousands of times and helped others to open up about their own battles.

Stars all over the NBA have expressed their support for Love too, including his teammate LeBron James, who tweeted, “You’re even more powerful now than ever before … Salute and respect brother!”

Love, who is recovering from a wrist injury, will soon be back on the court trying to help his teammates win another NBA title. For millions of people struggling with mental health issues around the world, though, he’s already their champion.
