A Gainesville man died in flooding in Cooke County during Thursday night's storms.

Brandon Henegar, 36, was found dead in his car by volunteers about 10 a.m. Friday.

The Justice of the Peace in Cooke County said Henegar left his home and was heading to work around 10 p.m. Thursday, but never made it. It appeared Henegar was caught in flash flooding near Valley View and his car was carried nearly a mile off the road.

Schools in the small district of Era were also closed Friday because of flooding and storm damage.

The district said some of the roadways in Cooke County were unsafe because of high water.

The elementary school building also had significant water damage.

Several HVAC units on the roof were blown over, leaving openings for rain and debris to fall into the kindergarten, first and second grade classrooms.

Era is not far from the town of Valley View, where flood waters likely caused a freight train to derail.

Interstate 35 was also closed in the area Thursday night because of flash flooding.
