Guns stolen in Plano smash-and-grab

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating and local police are on alert after a gun store smash-and-grab in Plano.

Law enforcement officials say a vehicle rammed into the store Wednesday morning. Several people got out and stole dozens of guns.

The incident happened at Mister Guns gun shop. The impact knocked a hole in the wall, and the store is being boarded up.

“You know, you’re looking at guns where there’s no type of paper trail whatsoever that’s left behind on who’s possessing,” said John Russ Morrison, a public information officer for the ATF. “So they can be used in crimes. There’s no fear of them being traced back to an individual buyer, and in their mind, it distances themselves from being caught.”

ATF is looking at store surveillance.

It’s unclear how many guns were taken, but FOX 4 was told it’s somewhere in the neighborhood of about 75 firearms.

ATF officials say these types of thefts are very rare.
