Fort Worth Stockyards on endangered list

A national group put the Fort Worth Stockyards on its list of endangered historic places.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation said planned redevelopment threatens the tradition of the stockyards, which were once the center of the American cattle trade.

Developers are working on a $175 million project that will add hotels, shopping, entertainment and apartments to the stockyards.

Other spots on the list include: the Grand Canyon, which is threatened by tourist resorts and mining requests, Little Havana in Miami, Oak Flat, a sacred tribal site in Superior, Ariz. also threatened by mining, and New Orleans' Carrollton Courthouse, which is a vacant area right outside the French Quarter.
