Former Chief of DPS Intelligence & Counterterrorism Division arrested on charge of sexual assault

The former Chief of the DPS Intelligence and Counterterrorism Division, John Jones, has been arrested and charged with sexual assault.

A spokesperson with the Texas Department of Public Safety says that Jones was terminated from the on Tuesday, July 30.

Jones was arrested by investigators from the Travis County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers and booked in the Travis County Jail.

A court affidavit shows that the victim is a 44-year-old woman who reported that she had been sexually assaulted by Jones after attending a party at his residence on July 20.

The victim reportedly worked with Jones's wife at a company which had recently ceased operations.

The victim said she arrived at the party at 1 p.m. and at about 9 p.m. she went out on an ATV with Jones for a ride in the trails around his home. She said she at first stayed on surface streets but Jones instructed her to go offroad.

The two eventually ended up in a brushy clearing where the victim says the assault happened.

The victim returned to Jones's residentce and got a ride home from one of the other people at the party. She then went to an emergency room in Cedar Park and also Brave Alliance in Georgetown to have a Sexual Assault Forensic Exam (SAFE) done.

Authorities reviewed the SAFE report and determined that Jones should be charged with sexual assault.
