Driver hurt in high-speed chase through Rockwall

Rockwall sheriff’s deputies tried to stop a pickup truck and ended up in a high-speed chase early Friday morning.

It happened just before 2 a.m. The sheriff’s office said the driver of a 2006 Ford F150 refused to pull over for a traffic stop and took off. The chase reached speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour.

The man drove without his headlights on into the small community of McLendon-Chisholm, where he ran into a deputy’s car. The deputy fired at the man, but the driver sped off again.

In Dallas County, sheriff’s deputies were waiting with spikes to flatten the truck’s tires. That’s when the man finally gave up.

He suffered minor injuries, but it is not yet clear if he was hit by shrapnel from the gunfire or hurt during the chase.

Deputies are also still investigating the reason he refused to stop in the first place.
