Dallas Police work to secure building after PD headquarters attacked

 Dallas police are working to secure the area around its downtown Headquarters building after an early morning attack.

A man driving what is described as some type of armored vehicle drove to the Dallas Police Department Headquarters building on South Lamar Street, rammed a police car and opened fire. Officers returned the fire. No officers were injured in the exchange of gun fire.

Police are now working to remove suspected bags near the Headquarters building that may contain explosive devices. The bags were left by the suspect. Police will begin controlled detonations of at least one bag near the police building just before 5am.

Following the shooting incident the suspect drove to a remote location near Hutchins, southeast of Dallas. Police have the suspects vehicle surrounded at that area. Police say they are talking with the suspect. The suspect has told police that he has been injured but say they cannot confirm any injuries to the suspect
