Colleyville officer, boy form special bond

A Colleyville police officer has formed a special bond with a young boy. The two met by chance and became instant friends, all because of the child's fascination with police.

Officer Patrick Starrett and 6-year-old Phillip, who has Down syndrome, were introduced in the drop-off lane at O.C. Taylor Elementary.

"I had the best day ever,” said Starrett. “I think that little boy made my day more than I made his day. I got to take a picture with him on his recess.”

Starrett and Phillip might Colleyville's latest dynamic duo.

"He turns and looks at me, and his eyes are just as big as the moon,” said Starrett. “He couldn't get out of that car fast enough. He just had to get out of that car! Gets out of the car, comes up, gives me a big ‘ole hug; just a warm hug."

In the midst of growing police tension around the country and North Texas officers mourning another gunned down for no apparent reason near Houston, it struck a nerve with Starrett.

"This little boy that looks up to the police, and then, you know, all of a sudden, he's made my day,” said Starrett.

“He has an effect on you!” said FOX 4’s Dionne Anglin.

“He has!” said Starrett. “You can see it."
