Child, 12, crashes SUV into Fort Worth church

A 12-year-old girl crashed an SUV into the side of a church in Fort Worth Thursday night.

The incident happened in the 3800 block of St. Louis Avenue at the Iglesia Bautista Calvario church.

The girl was reportedly driving her father's vehicle with her three younger siblings, who are 7, 6 and 1.

According to Fort Worth police, the father had just left in another vehicle to go to the store when the daughter decided to take a joyride around the block.

The girl reportedly drove about two blocks down St. Louis Avenue until it dead ended into Pafford Street.

When she made a left turn, the SUV kept coming around, jumped the curb and the sidewalk into the side of the church.

No one in the vehicle was injured and the church sustained minimal damage.

Five people in the church were treated with minor injuries.

Church members are astonished that the incident happened.

"Well, it was kind of shocking to me,” said church deacon Daniel Espiricueta. “I mean, what happened to the parents?”

Fort Worth police say they do not expect to file any charges.

The girl’s father says that one of his worries is that Child Protective Services will come knocking on his door.

CPS says the children in the accident are not in CPS custody and because of privacy rules, they can't say if they will investigate.
