Two police departments in Kaufman County are adding “In God We Trust” decals to patrol vehicles.

The Crandall and Terrell police departments will soon put the phrase on all police vehicles despite controversy. In the past, atheist groups have claimed it crosses the line that separates church and state.

But, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said the use of “In God We Trust” is protected by the First Amendment.

Gov. Greg Abbott turned to Twitter to give his approval. The Republican said he is proud of the cities for adding the country’s motto to its squad cars.
