Man found guilty in Alvarado drunk driving deaths of three

A man on trial for the drunk driving deaths of a woman and her two sons was found guilty on Thursday afternoon.

Before the verdict, Ricardo Martinez, 54, took the stand. He apologized and admitted he was an alcoholic.

Martinez was driving the wrong way on Highway 67 in Alvarado last March when he crashed head-on with another vehicle.

The impact killed Miranda Abshire, 22, and her two little boys. Her 13-year old sister survived.

Surveillance video from two different stores showed Martinez buying tequila and beer just hours before the crash.

The penalty phase of the trial starts Friday.
