Grand Prairie ISD investigating ‘Beat Week' videos posted on social media

The Grand Prairie Independent School District is investigating a series of fights on the campus of an all-girls' school posted on social media for something called ‘Beat Week.’A spokesman says swift action against those involved in the videos shows the behavior won't be tolerated.

Grand Prairie's Young Women's Leadership Academy at Arnold Middle School bills itself as a high-performing school, training young women to be leaders in our society. But cell phone video posted to social media this week shows students with conduct synonymous of prison.

FOX 4 is not showing the girl's faces since they are minors. One video shows a student sucker-punched and thrown to the ground.

“I'm just shocked and appalled,” said Nicole Hinojosa whose daughter attends the school. “They're basically acting like animals."

Hinojosa says bullying is so bad at the school, she pulled her daughter out. She says the video involving kids she doesn't know only emphasizes the problem.

The school district says about six students are involved. Most of them are believed to be seventh graders.

A spokesman said the school “immediately intervened and worked with campus administrators to identify these students. Several students have been removed from the campus and will face disciplinary action.”

Hinojosa is hopeful the exposed attacks can help restore the campus' reputation.

The six students involved have been moved to an alternative school. As far as discipline, Grand Prairie ISD says the severity will depend on how involved each student was in the making of these fight videos.
