Animal control officers responded to the scene and took the dog to the local animal center to receive medical care.

Veterinarians say the dog came in "severely emaciated and covered in both urine and feces."

Doctors discovered the dog had an ulcerated abscess on her right eye, which had to be surgically removed.

Bloodwork revealed she also had a severe infection, which is now being treated with antibiotics and pain medication.

What's next:

A DeSoto police spokesperson tells FOX 4 once the dog is well enough, she will go to a reputable animal rescue, where she will be rehabilitated and eventually adopted.

But for the time being, the rescue organization is being kept anonymous.
