Texas Rangers extend contract of GM Jon Daniels

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels signed a contract extension with the club on Thursday, ensuring that he will remain at the helm for the team in the near future.

Daniels, who also serves as the team’s president of baseball operations, has been the Rangers’ GM since 2005. He was just 28 years old when he took the position. Under his leadership, the team has amassed five playoff appearances and seven winning seasons.

The two sides had reportedly been working on a contract extension since the end of last season. They finally came to an agreement Thursday.

"Coming into this season, extending Jon Daniels' contract was a priority for us,” Rangers co-chairman and managing general partner Ray Davis said in a statement. “His track record demonstrates clearly that he is the right person to lead the Rangers back to contending for championships once again.”

The Rangers have stumbled out of the gate this season. They are currently in last place in the AL West with a record of 27-37. Despite the slow start to the year, Davis and the rest of the organization still believe Daniels is the right man for the job.

“Jon and his group understand the challenges ahead and are working diligently to build a Major League team that will be competitive for years to come,” Davis said. “We are fortunate to have Jon leading our baseball operations as we enter into what will be a very exciting time for the Texas Rangers franchise.”
