For as long as I can remember, I always dreamed of becoming a television news reporter. As a young boy growing up in Indiana, one Christmas I desperately wanted a karaoke machine. Not for singing… it was all about the microphone! Santa pulled through that year. Armed with my new mic and a poorly fashioned news logo I’d cobbled together from scraps of cardboard and duct tape… I peddled my bike around the neighborhood and pretended to do "live reports" on make-believe stories. Little did I know my distant childhood dream would eventually come to fruition.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications from Ball State University… I launched my journalism career in 2000 at WTVW-TV as a general assignment reporter in my hometown of Evansville. Three years later, I made my way to the Lone Star State... joining KVUE-TV in Austin, as a beat reporter, mostly responsible for covering city government. While in Austin, my work was honored with an Edward R. Murrow Award for a story I brought to light about inhumane coaching practices at a public school. I officially joined the Fox family in 2005 as a reporter for Good Day right here at KDFW-TV. In my two years at Fox 4, covering a wide variety of news around the Metroplex, I was honored with a regional Emmy Award for "Best Live Reporting." In 2007, I was elevated to a national platform as a network correspondent for Fox News Channel, embarking on an unforgettable 17-year journey, taking a front row seat to some of the biggest stories around the globe.
My tenure with Fox News began in Los Angeles, where I spent just over five years reporting on monumental moments that captivated the nation… including politics, destructive wildfires, mudslides, catastrophic tornadoes in Alabama & Missouri, the sudden deaths of pop icons Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, the subsequent trial of Michael Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray, OJ Simpson’s arrest in Las Vegas, the shooting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, her gunman's trial and Casey Anthony’s release from a Florida jail. Living close to Hollywood also gave me the opportunity to cover some major entertainment events… such as reporting from the Academy Awards red carpet, Paris Hilton’s stint in jail and Lindsay Lohan’s 2007 legal troubles.
In addition to my domestic duties, I was fortunate to have gained some international experience during that time frame. In my first year at the network, I was sent to Israel and assigned to Fox's Jerusalem bureau for four weeks... where I covered rocket attacks near the Gaza Strip and reported on Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s visit to the region. Then in 2009, my team was embedded with a wing of the U.S. Air Force and deployed to Afghanistan for several weeks. We flew military airlift, provided live reports from the war zone and profiled the work troops were doing on the ground... at a small forward operating base, near the border of Iran. Though the years, you could also occasionally see me filling in on the anchor desk and hosting various shows at Fox News world headquarters in New York City.
Fast forward to 2012 and I made my return to North Texas as a correspondent for the Fox News Dallas bureau. In that role, I was the face of numerous historical happenings… such as the deaths & funerals of President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush, the grand opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum, the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination, the murder & funeral of "American Sniper" Chris Kyle, the unexpected death of Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia, Pope Francis’ visit to Juárez, the military court martial of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, former Dallas Police officer Amber Guyger’s murder trial and multiple launches of Blue Origin rockets. I was also on the scene of heartbreaking mass shooting events at Santa Fe High School, a church in Sutherland Springs, the Allen outlet mall, Robb Elementary School in Uvalde and the ambush of Dallas police in 2016. It was also commonplace for me to be in the "eye of the storm" through coverage of countless breaking weather events from deadly tornadoes across Oklahoma & Arkansas… to Hurricanes Ike, Gustav, Issac, Harvey, Laura and Delta… plus Texas’ crippling winter storm in 2021 that knocked out power to huge swaths of the state. You could often find me filing reports on immigration from the southern border, taking part in numerous ride-alongs with U.S. Border Patrol agents as they conducted enforcement operations.
Following nearly two decades of non-stop travel and living the life of a road warrior... in the spring of 2024, it was time for me to pursue a new chapter in my career. After some long overdue R&R, 2025 kicked off with my return to the airwaves right here at Fox 4 as a weekend evening anchor & nightside reporter. I’m absolutely thrilled and honored to continue the important job of informing the community I proudly call home... not to mention, telling the important stories of my fellow North Texans.
No doubt, it has been one extraordinary journey for that little boy… who started out, many moons ago, with that karaoke microphone and a dream.
