Trump, Putin meet in Alaska

The backstory:

On Friday, Trump and Putin met for the first time in six years to discuss what it will take to stop Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy was not at the meeting.

A U.S. official told the Associated Press that Putin agreed that the U.S. and European allies could offer a NATO-style security guarantee to Ukraine as part of an eventual deal to end the war.

The apparent agreement appeared to be a major shift for Putin, and analysts have said Trump’s statements show he is now more aligned with Putin in that an overall peace agreement - not a ceasefire - is the next step.
