Texas Baptist Men preparing to help hurricane victims
The Texas Baptist Men are watching, waiting and willfully preparing to travel to where there’s likely devastation in the wake of the Hurricane Matthew.
The group’s Dallas complex is quiet for the most part. But in areas, you will see preps happening to gear up for the trip relating to hurricane Matthew.
Heavy equipment is being used to move things like fuel storage tanks onto the beds of trailers.
The Texas Baptist Men from Dallas and Tarrant County say they will assist their counterparts in Mississippi and will be stationed in either Florida or Georgia to help distribute meals to displaced victims and first responders.
"They had asked us original if we could at least plan on preparing meals for 3 weeks, up to 3 weeks of the amount that was requested,” said Disaster Relief Director Terry Henderson. “So it'll probably be a month for us."
The crew of about 20 to 25 will take a total of six separate trailers, a feeding unit and a generator. They will be a part of a mission given the task of preparing thousands of hot meals each day to make life a bit easier for those affected by loss as a result of the massive storm.
For now, the group plans to hit the road around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday but is closely monitoring the storm's path and intensity, which could alter their schedule.
