Teen arrested for shooting Dallas teen whose family donated his organs

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with manslaughter for the deadly shooting of another teen whose family donated his organs after he was declared brain dead.

Investigators said their suspect shot 15-year-old Roy Stuart at an Oak Cliff apartment complex on Simpson Stuart Road last week. The suspect's name will not be released because he's a juvenile.

Stuart was a South Oak Cliff HS freshman and was shot in the head by the suspect, but there was enough time for the family to decide to help out other people in need.

Grandmother Brenda Stuart said she was at the grocery store when she got the call that he grandson had been shot. When she arrived at the hospital and found out his condition, she worked to get in contact with Roy’s father who is in jail. He agreed to let his son’s organs help others live.

“He said ‘Mama, he says if my son’s death can save somebody else's child or somebody else’s life go ahead and do it,’” Brenda Stuart said. “In such a tragedy like this there is some good that can come out of it.”

The Stuart family’s sacrifice has saved four lives so far. His kidneys, liver, heart and lungs were donated.
