Several hurt in Arlington apartment fire set intentionally

ARLINTON, Texas - Four people were taken to the hospital because of a fire that was intentionally set in an Arlington apartment.

Arlington police said around 6:30 a.m. Monday there was a domestic disturbance at the Running Brook Apartments near Park Row and Highway 360.

The 25-year-old male suspect left an apartment and returned with gasoline. The suspect then torched the apartment and everyone inside was hurt, including the suspect, police said.

Four people were taken to local hospitals. The suspect suffered severe burns across 50 percent of his body and was flown to Parkland Hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said the incident started with a heated argument between the man and a woman who he used to date.

Fire officials said the flames were shooting through the roof and neighboring residents had already evacuated by the time firefighters arrived.

The firefighters were able to contain the fire to just one building but eight other units had extensive fire and water damage. About three dozen people are now homeless.

Arlington police said the investigation is ongoing and if the suspect survives the burns, he very likely could face charges that could range anywhere from attempted murder to aggravated assault.
