Senate bill would limit property tax revenue growth

State senators are moving quickly to give Gov. Greg Abbott what he wants – property tax relief.

The proposed measure would not cut taxes but it would slow the growth of tax revenue by local governments, including school districts.

If revenue grew by more than 2.5 percent, it would trigger a vote to approve or deny the increase.

Abbott made property tax reform one of his top priorities for this legislative session.

There is a similar measure being debated in the State House.
