Rainfall record for May in sight for North Texas

The Dallas-Fort Worth area is close to setting a record for rainfall in May.

The current record, 13.66 inches, could fall by the end of the month as rain is possible each of the final five days of May.

DFW Airport, where official measurements occur, has recorded 12.31 inches of rain as of May 27. 1.35 inches of rain would tie the record and 1.36 inches would break the current record set in May 1982.

North Texas once again has a chance of storms on Wednesday.

Clear skies and sun will heat up the area ahead of the next disturbance. This drops out of Oklahoma PM with storms spreading in toward evening. Some may be severe (wind, hail, flood). Also, a few storms may blow west near the dry line (tornado risk there).

Thursday will have more clouds as another widespread event develops into the evening-night hours. Less severe risk, but still more rain.

Storms are also possible Friday and especially Sat. as a cold front drops in from the north.

By Sunday...the front drifts away...and coverage will be much lower. Mon/Tue will warm up and at this point, can't rule out a few stray PM storms BUT the pattern should be drying out.
