Woman killed by ex-boyfriend inside Plano home, police say

A Plano murder suspect was found dead inside a burning car after a high-speed chase along Interstate 35 near the Denton-Cooke County line.

What we know:

Plano police said they got a call about the deadly shooting at a home on Lakestream Drive, which is near Parker Road and Alma Drive, just after 10 p.m. on Sunday night.

Investigators believe a man shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and then fled in a black Dodge Charger. Other people who were in the home were uninjured and were able to give police the suspect's name.

Police set up surveillance on the car and got a hit on Monday morning. That led to a high-speed chase, standoff, and fire on I-35 near the border of Denton and Cooke counties.

The suspect was found dead inside the car after firefighters put out the flames.

What they're saying:

"We had detectives work through the night, and they were able to locate the vehicle and had set up surveillance on it," Plano police officer Jerry Minton said.

FOX 4 talked to neighbors who said the family who lives in the home where the shooting happened had just moved in a couple of months ago. They frequently had children playing in a backyard pool.

One neighbor said police asked him if he'd seen a specific car on Sunday.

"When I came outside I saw the commotion down the road. I already saw them blocked down the road. Yeah, and later on a cop came and basically asked me if we had seen anything and if anything was captured on the Ring. We didn't see anything, so not much information I could provide him," said Paul Teixeira. "The only thing they mentioned is that they were looking for a car that had gone by. I think they mentioned a Dodge Charger, but that was all the information I had."

What we don't know:

Police have not released the identities of the suspect or the victim.

It's not yet clear how the suspect died.
