North Texas officers honor San Antonio's fallen officer

DALLAS - Friends, family and colleagues have gathered to remember a San Antonio police detective who was shot to death while sitting in his patrol car.

Detective Benjamin Marconi's funeral Monday was at the Community Bible Church in San Antonio. Betsy Buhler, the church's media minister and a police chaplain, said: "We are forever grateful for his watch over us."

The 50-year-old Marconi was fatally shot Nov. 20 as he sat in his patrol car writing a traffic ticket outside police headquarters. Thirty-one-year-old Otis Tyrone McKane has been charged with capital murder in the attack. McKane said he was angry over a child-custody battle and "lashed out at somebody who didn't deserve it."

Those who spoke at the service included fellow officers and Marconi's grown children.

Many of the local officers said even though they didn’t know Marconi personally, as police officers they share a bond like family.

“We just want to let people know we are there for them no matter where they're at,” said Fort Worth Officer Jimmy Pollozani.

Sadly this is the tenth funeral for a fallen officer in Texas this year. Marconi was a 20-year department veteran.
