DALLAS - Gunfire erupted at an apartment complex in Oak Cliff early Saturday, sending at least five people to area hospitals, Dallas police said.
What we know:
Police responded just before 1 a.m. to a shooting call in the 5900 block of Highland Village Drive in southeast Oak Cliff.
Authorities said unknown suspects fired multiple rounds at the apartment complex. Bullet holes were visible in walls and windows at the scene.
Dallas Fire-Rescue took five people to hospitals, including one person who was in critical condition.
A man who was at the complex during the shooting told reporters he was helping a woman who had been shot in the leg. He asked not to be identified or shown on camera.
The man said he used his shirt to wrap the woman’s leg after she ran to him asking for help.
"A group of us was over here just minding our business," he said. "Next thing you know, shots just rang out."
He said people began running in different directions after the gunfire started.
The man also said violence has become too common in the area, adding that innocent people are being injured despite having nothing to do with the conflicts.
What we don't know:
Dallas police have not identified any suspects or announced any arrests.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
