Motion filed to increase bond for accused Farmers Branch officer

A motion was filed Friday to increase bond for the Farmers Branch police officer who shot and killed a teen.

Officer Ken Johnson is currently out on bond for a murder charge. Johnson chased two teenagers he suspected of breaking into his car last Sunday. He shot them, killing Jose Cruz, 16, and wounding his friend.

A magistrate lowered Johnson’s bond on murder and aggravated assault to $150,000. The Dallas County District Attorney’s office is asking a judge to raise the bond back to a total of $250,000.

Prosecutors also want conditions set for Johnson's release, including requirements for him to turn in his passport and firearms and to wear a GPS monitor.

Johnson remains on administrative leave with pay from the Farmers Branch Police Department.

A judge will decide what will happen to the officer's bond next week.
