MLB team hosts sleepover for kids undergoing medical treatment

Rather than spending another night in a hospital, nine children spent the night at Citizens Bank Park -- home of the Philadelphia Phillies.

The epic sleepover was a well deserved break for this starting lineup which included Patrick Vanderslice, who was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia last summer.

"This is awesome. This is really an outstanding thing the Phillies put together for the kids who are in need of an upbeat boost," his dad, Jason Vanderslice told FOX 29

Kiernan Clark, who is getting ready for his 37th surgery, was also among the guests.

“This night is so special because me and my friend Derek here have been friends for a very long time, and we’re here together,” he said.

The kids felt like part of the team as they enjoyed their very own locker room stalls, some batting practice, and of course the antics of mascot the Philly Phanatic.

They also had a special guest on hand. Starting pitcher Zach Eflin, who lost his sister to leukemia, volunteered to spend the night with the kids.

“Just being able to be with these kids, and honor my sister in a way that, you know, I'll be doing, really just touches my heart, and I know it touches all the kids’ hearts,” said Eflin.

Baseball season may be four months away, but the season of kindness never stops.
