Homeowner leaves would-be burglar in critical condition

DALLAS - A burglary suspect is in critical condition after exchanging gunfire with a Dallas homeowner.

Police said a man pulled up to his home on Denley Drive in east Oak Cliff around 11:30 p.m. Monday and saw a man trying to break in.

The burglar reportedly started firing at the homeowner’s SUV so the homeowner returned fire through his driver’s side window, police said.

The suspect was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The homeowner was not hurt.

Police are still investigating the shooting but said it does appear to be justified considering the homeowner was under fire and protecting his property.

He is cooperating with the investigation.
