A family is mourning the loss of two children, ages 6 and 11-months, after a truck hydroplaned and crashed into their vehicle Saturday night on East Loop 820.

Both children who died had birthdays coming up, both were holiday babies. The woman who was driving them was her son's grandmother. She is now behind bars.

“I just want to hold my baby one more time,” said 11-month-old Wesley Barrett’s mother, Kenadii Frazier.

Frazier was working extra hours Saturday, on the night shift, to make more money for her firstborn son's first birthday on New Year's Eve, when the Nissan Altima he was in, driven by his grandmother, was hit by a black Dodge Ram just before 6:30.

Wesley and his 6-year-old aunt Trinity Barrett were taken to the hospital, but neither survived.

“It was hard to see my baby laying on the bed like that after I had just dropped him off a few hours ago, laughing, playing, eating French fries, his favorite thing, and Cheetos. I didn't even get to spend a year with him,” said Frazier.

Frazier says the mother of her baby's father, Tawanna Barrett, watched Wesley as many as four nights a week while she was working, often also babysitting Trinity.

“They had a really, really special bond.”

Wesley took his first steps last month. Frazier says Tawanna is the one who taught him to walk.

Fort Worth Police say it was the driver of the black Dodge Ram who caused the crash, hydroplaning on a rainy night in the 3000 block of East Loop 820 at Craig Street, losing control and causing the Nissan Altima to take down a guardrail and roll on the service road.

Police say Tawanna did not cause the crash, but was arrested on scene for drug possession.

“I had a really close relationship with her and I never saw her in a negative way at all,” said Frazier.

Now, 21-year-old Frazier is mourning the loss of the child she didn't plan for.

“Really my everything. He came to me in the darkest moments of my life.” She said. “But when he came it was just like everything gave me a purpose.”

Trinity would have turned 7-years-old on Christmas day.

The driver of the truck who hydroplaned and lost control was not injured. He has not been charged in the crash.
