Dallas City Council to discuss closing of ‘Tent City'
The Dallas City Council will meet Wednesday to discuss how to properly close down ‘Tent City’ in May.
A report presented to the city council revealed the homeless encampment under the I-45 bridge has tripled in size since last year.
According to the report, 85 percent of the people living in ‘Tent City’ have been incarcerated and 50 percent have a psychiatric condition.
The council is expected to talk about using the Dawson State Jail and the Old Parkland Hospital as temporary shelters.
Dallas County Health and Human Services workers were also out at ‘Tent City’ Monday assessing housing needs for the homeless.
