Brown University shooting latest: Authorities continue search for suspected shooter
The search continues Monday for the suspect in a shooting at Brown University on Dec 13 after a person of interest was released from custody.
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley and officials made the announcement Sunday night explaining that they had no way of knowing if the shooter, who killed at least two students and injured nine others over the weekend, was still in the city.

Police searching for shooting suspect
7:30 a.m. ET: Police are searching for the suspected shooter in the Brown University attack.
According to FOX News, authorities say that a video showing a man dressed in all black is still the "most useful" to help track down the Brown University shooter.
Brown University urged its community to remain vigilant in a message late Sunday night writing:
"As Providence police continue to lead this investigation, they have informed Brown that they are continuing their search efforts, which includes ongoing coordination with multiple agencies," the message read, in part. "There continues to be a heightened amount of local, state and federal police activity in the area as law enforcement continues to investigate and patrol with increased vigilance."
Brown University shooting: Law enforcement's response
We are now learning that a suspect in the Brown University shooting has been taken into custody according to police in Rhode Island. Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said the suspect is in their 20s. An FBI official told The Associated Press that the arrest happened at a Hampton Inn in Coventry, about 20 miles from Providence. 7 a.m. ET: One of the nine wounded students had been released from the hospital, said Paxson. Seven others were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, Brown University President Christina Paxson told the Associated Press.
Authorities said nine people shot in the attack on Dec. 13 were students, and another person was injured by fragments from the shooting, but it's unclear if the victim is a student.

Nine people with gunshot wounds were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where one was in critical condition. Six required intensive care but were not getting worse and two were stable, hospital spokesperson Kelly Brennan said.
FOX News reported that one of the students killed in the Dec. 13 shooting at Brown University has been identified as Ella Cook.
The news of her death was shared by her home church, Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama, during a Sunday service, where a priest spoke about the tragedy and Cook’s impact on those around her.

On Sunday morning, authorities took into custody a person of interest at a Hampton Inn hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island. He was identified as a 24-year-old man from Wisconsin, though authorities never released the individual’s name, two people familiar with the matter told the Associated Press.

The shooting happened on Dec. 13 in the Barus & Holley engineering building while final exams were underway. Brown canceled all remaining classes, exams, papers and projects for the semester and told students they could leave campus.

The shooter opened fire inside a classroom in the engineering building, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9 mm handgun, a law enforcement official told AP. Two handguns were recovered when the person of interest was taken into custody and authorities also found two loaded 30-round magazines, the official said.
While police searched the area for the shooter, students remained barricaded in rooms while others hid behind furniture and bookshelves. A video showed students in a library shaking as they heard loud bangs just before police entered the room to clear the building.
