Protest in support of Colin Kaepernick before Texans game
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Just a few days after Colin Kaepernick was named Citizen of the Year by GQ magazine and his supporters will take part in a locally-organized protest before the Houston Texans face the Arizona Cardinals at NRG Stadium on Nov. 19.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback first began sitting during the national anthem in 2016 as a protest of racial injustice and police brutality. He then started taking a knee instead.
Other National Football League players, including several on the Texans squad, began following his lead, sparking a national movement.
President Donald Trump recently insulted the protesting players, said they should be fired by team owners and singled out Kaepernick, referring to him with a derogatory phrase.
The President's comments resulted in more than 200 players taking a knee or linking arms the following weekend.
One of the protest organizers, activist Deric Muhammad, tells Isiah Carey the purpose for the gathering.
