New Rangers catcher Holaday happy to return home to North Texas
The newest Texas Rangers catcher is a true hometown player – raised in Dallas and a graduate of TCU.
Bryan Holaday said he used to come to the ballpark as a spectator in high school and imagined playing at the home of the rangers as a major league player. Now it’s reality.
"This is a dream come true,” Holaday said.
Holaday is graduate of Dallas ISD’s W.T. White High School in North Dallas. He now hopes he can inspire students there to live their dreams.
"It's something I already talked to my family about, trying to get back to the community. Being home makes it that much more special,” Holaday said.
Holiday spent the last three years in Detroit, where he played for the Tigers. Holaday and his wife Ashley said it feels good to be back home in the Lone Star State. The two met at TCU.
“My best friend was liking another baseball player on the team and she was like please come to this baseball game with me. I was like baseball is really long and boring and you can get really hot and sweaty. She was like, yeah, but today we can get a good tan. I was like okay,” Ashley Holaday said.
They then went to eat at Fuzzy's Tacos, because that's where the players went.
"Bryan was like, ‘Have you ever had a fish taco from Fuzzy's?’ I was like no that's kind of weird. He was like, ‘Let me get you one.’ He kept being so persistent. I was like ‘OK, I'll give you my number just chill.’ And here we are," Ashley Holaday said.
The two now have a three-year-old son and three-month-old daughter. They recently bought a house in Ft. Worth to be closer family during the off-season.
