A sporting event wouldn’t be complete without mascots.  The three official FIFA World Cup mascots highlight each of the three host countries.  

The backstory:

Maple the Moose represents Canada, Zayu the Jaguar Mexico and Clutch the Bald Eagle the United States.  FIFA says all three were developed to reflect the vibrant culture, heritage and spirit of their countries and together symbolise unity, diversity and the shared passion for the game of soccer.

Mascots were first introduced at the 1966 World Cup in England and the 2026 World Cup will be the 16th consecutive event to feature mascots.

Canada’s Maple the Moose 

FIFA says Maple the Moose was born to roam, journeying across all of Canada’s provinces and territories while connecting with people and embracing the country’s rich culture. Maple is a dedicated goalkeeper who loves music and finds purpose through creativity, resilience and unapologetic individuality. Maple has a knack for making legendary saves and a heart full of strength and leadership and combines endless stories with unstoppable flair.

Mexico’s Zayu the Jaguar 

Zayu the Jaguar is from the jungles of southern Mexico and FIFA says Zayu embodies the rich heritage and vibrant spirit of the country. With a name inspired by unity, strength and joy, Zayu transforms on the pitch as a striker, showcasing exceptional ingenuity and agility that intimidates defenders. While not on the pitch, Zayu embraces Mexican culture through dance, food and tradition, uniting people across borders with passion and pride.  Zayu is a symbol of cultural celebration and connection, carrying the heart of Mexico with pride.

USA’s Clutch the Bald Eagle 

Clutch the Bald Eagle possesses an unquenchable thirst for adventure, soaring across the United States.  FIFA says Clutch embraces every culture, game and moment with boundless curiosity and optimism. Fearless on the pitch and uplifting off it, Clutch leads by action by rallying teammates, lifting spirits and turning every challenge into an opportunity to rise higher.
