Carrollton police have arrested the driver of an SUV who caused a deadly hit-and-run crash early Wednesday morning in the northbound lanes of I-35.

Gregory LaMaster, 43, of McKinney was arrested a few hours after the incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said LaMaster, driving an SUV, crossed several lanes of I-35 traffic to exit at the President George Bush Turnpike and hit the woman's car which was in the far right lane.

The crash left the woman's car pinned against a wall while another driver hit the woman's car and caused it to flip.

Cleotilde Benitez, 42, died at the scene.

A fourth vehicle was also involved in the crash, but no one was seriously hurt in that vehicle.

LaMaster fled the scene in his SUV, but police announced his arrest later Wednesday morning. Police said witness accounts and a license plate found at the scene led them to LaMaster.

The northbound lanes of I-35 were shut down for several hours while police investigated.
