Woman dies after being run over in Cedar Hill Kroger parking lot
CEDAR HILL, Texas - A 54-year-old woman has died after being run over in a Kroger parking lot in Cedar Hill last Thursday.
Officers found Martina Gutierrez trapped under a small SUV shortly after 11 a.m. last Thursday. The Cedar Hill Fire Department freed her, and she was transported to Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas.
She died on Tuesday, five days after being struck by the car.
Gutierrez leaves behind three children -- two daughters who are 14 and 20 years old, and a son who is also 14 years old. The family is now mourning her loss while trying to prepare for a funeral.
They're also looking for answers from police.
"They haven't told us what exactly happened, how it happened. We don't know if the driver was backing up or if he was driving," said Martha Vallado, Gutierrez's daughter. "It's really hard for me, for my family, my brother and my sister. We couldn't talk to her anymore."
Police said they are still investigating the accident. No charges have been filed against the driver yet.
"We were saddened to learn about Ms. [Gutierrez's] passing on Tuesday and we mourn with her family for her loss. As a result of our conversations with her family, we know they share many of the same questions about why, and how, this crash occurred. Our investigators are working though a number of complexities to provide the family answers to those questions. When our investigation is finished, not only will we share our results with the family, we will also forward our findings to the Dallas County Grand Jury to determine what, if any, charges will be filed," the department said in a statement.
