Water main break floods Oak Lawn stores

People who run two businesses in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas will spend the day cleaning up a mess from a broken water main.

The line ruptured and water started bubbling up inside a UPS Store on Cedar Springs Road around 1:30 a.m. Friday. The neighboring Walgreens Community Pharmacy was also flooded.

Dallas Fire Station 11 is connected to the building. Thankfully the firefighters responded quickly and were able to pry open the doors. But when they did, water came pouring out onto the street.

The owner of the UPS Store said the water rose about two feet inside the store. It’s also the third time the store has flooded over the past year, but the first two times were because of heavy rain.

Restoration crews are now trying to suck up all the water and mop up all the mud. The stores computers will also need to be replaced.

The store will be open Friday for those who need to check a mailbox, but anyone who has shipping needs will have to go to the McKinney Avenue store.

Dallas water utility crews are also working to repair the break.
