Volunteers deliver toys, beds to needy famiilies on MLK Day

DALLAS - MLK Day is often designated as a day of service. It’s a day when people across the country set aside time to give back to their community.

FOX 4 photojournalist Raul Canto was in south Dallas Monday morning where volunteers with the S.M. Wright Foundation brought smiles to some young faces.

They delivered new beds, furniture, books and most importantly toys to the children of several families in need.

"On Christmas day the pastor and I went to a home. We had a child that was 2 years old that came out to greet us and in that room he had no bed. He was sleeping on the floor and that was a cold winter day," said Sussette Cole, who works with the foundation.

"This is a great cause and they do really good work. And we just took the day off to come out and help them give away beds," said David King, a volunteer.

The S.M. Wright Foundation was established in 1998 to provide assistance to the community. The program is named after a legendary pastor in Dallas who dedicated his service to the community.
