Two boys dead days after being pulled from Irving pool

Two boys who nearly drowned in an Irving apartment complex pool last week have died, Irving police said.

One child, August Smith, 10, died last week at the hospital shortly after being pulled from the pool on Wednesday afternoon.

Treshawn Smith, 9, and Anthony Smith, 11, had been on life support but died on Thursday night. Police found out about their deaths on Sunday and publicly made the announcement Monday afternoon.

Police said while a mother played with her 3 and 4-year-olds in a pool at the MacArthur Place at 183 apartments, she had her back turned to the other three kids who were in the water with her. Those were the three siblings that wound up dying.

None of the five children or the mother knew how to swim, according to authorities.

Police are treating the three deaths as accidental, but said if any new evidence came to light that would make the deaths criminal they would refer the case to the district attorney.

Authorities have said the pool water was murky and are investigating to see if the pool was maintained properly.
