Police have arrested two Dallas cousins who are accused of killing a Garland store clerk during an armed robbery.

Manish Panday was shot and killed early Sunday morning as he was closing an Exxon gas station off Broadway Boulevard. Detectives say he fought back as two men attempted to rob the store and then shot him.

Police announced the arrests of Darrell Dewayne Nash, 23, and Chavez Tyree Nash, 19, Tuesday night. They were located and arrested in Dallas on capital murder charges. Chavez was arrested at the John Leslie Patton Jr. Academic Center.

Jerry Reynolds is the radio host of the nationally syndicated Car Pro Show. But he also has a personal interest in the murder of the store clerk in his neighborhood. So the radio host is donating $5,000 to boost the Crime Stoppers reward to $10,000.

“I talked to him several times,” Reynolds said. “He just seemed like such a mild-mannered nice guy."

After a violent struggle, police say Panday was fatally shot. Surveillance video revealed one had a distinct hairdo, a hair bun and the back lower portion shaved. One suspect also carried a Spider-man backpack.

“That’s when I thought that we've got to keep this in front of everybody,” Reynolds said. “The video the Garland Police put out was fantastic. Somebody knows who they are."

Police say Darrell was shot in the leg during the struggle. Bloodhounds searched for evidence on Monday near the store, but police didn't say if anything turned up in the search.

Reynold feels strongly that the reward money will entice someone to do the right thing.

"This was something I felt like I could do,” he said. “And I felt like if I did it, maybe some other people would come forward and that reward will grow until somebody can't stand it anymore and say, ‘Okay I got the information.’”

Police believe Darrell and Chavez are behind three other robberies in Garland. They’re being held in the Garland jail without bond.

Police also believe a third person not seen on surveillance video may have been also involved in the shooting but did not give a description.
