Toys for Tots kicks off holiday toy drive

Folks out shopping for Christmas gifts again have the chance to help others with the annual Toys for Tots holiday toy drive.

The U.S Marine Corps Reserve’s campaign kicked off Friday and runs through Dec. 10. People are asked donate new and unwrapped toys for children in the area who are less fortunate.

Staff Sgt. Lisa Diaz said someone actually dropped off a large donation Friday morning at the Grapevine Mills Mall.

“We have young Marines, as well as two other uniformed Marines, out there walking the mall and they came back with about two carts filled overflowing with toys and Toys for Tots box filled with toys,” she said.

Staff Sgt. Diaz said Toys for Tots is the Marine Corps way of reaching out and serving the community. She is always excited to see the donations coming in.

“It’s really awesome that there’s so many people who even in this day and age still are willing to give and give of themselves. It’s just awesome,” she said.
