Toddler killed in Bush Turnpike crash

A 3-year-old was killed Thursday morning in a crash on the President George Bush Turnpike, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.

A driver was heading east on the turnpike around 8:30 a.m. near Custer Road when he steered left to avoid hitting a slower moving vehicle that was in the center lane.

The driver lost control, went into the median and crossed the concrete barrier dividing the lanes. The car landed in the westbound lanes and was then hit by an SUV and another car.

The driver who landed in the westbound lanes and the 3-year-old in the car with him were taken to a hospital, where the child later died.

The driver of the SUV was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and the other driver involved was not injured.

Officials continue to investigate.
