Tarrant County woman arrested for alleged medical child abuse

TARRANT COUNTY, Texas - Authorities have arrested a 31-year-old woman accused of medical child abuse that resulted in serious injury to a child, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday.

What we know:
Kaitlyn Rose Laura was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on a first-degree felony charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. She also faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators allege that Laura subjected the child to unnecessary medical treatments, sparking an additional investigation into potential Medicaid fraud. According to detectives, Laura also created at least three separate GoFundMe accounts to solicit donations for herself and the child’s purported medical expenses.

"The medical abuse of a child is a horrific crime," Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn said in a statement. "These cases are often complex and challenging to investigate, which can lead to them being overlooked within the criminal justice system. We remain committed to ensuring every report is taken seriously and every child receives the protection they deserve".
