Tarrant County DA Sharen Wilson says she won’t seek reelection in 2022

Residents in Tarrant County will soon vote for a new district attorney.

District Attorney Sharen Wilson announced Tuesday that she has decided not to run for reelection.

"After much thought, prayer, and reflection with my family, I have decided that I will not be seeking another term in 2022. Serving as your District Attorney has been one of the greatest honors of my life. When I first ran for the position, I pledged to serve you by being transparent, accessible and ethical while following and upholding the letter of the law. I committed to modernizing the office by reorganizing its resources and creating new specialized units to meet the changes in our society. Today, I feel confident that our mission has been achieved," Wilson said in her announcement.

Wilson was elected in 2015 and became Tarrant County’s first female district attorney.

She said her primary goal was to seek justice for everyone regardless of their background, financial status, what they look like or what they believe.

During her time in office, she believes she has enhanced public safety with the creation of specialized teams like the Elder Financial Fraud and Intimate Partner Violence teams, as well as programs like the Deferred Prosecution Program and the Citizen Prosecutor Academy.

"I am most grateful for the diligent and dedicated work of the women and men who come to work every day and represent the District Attorney’s Office with integrity, intelligence, hard work and a never wavering focus on justice. I will always respect those who uphold the premise of our justice system by representing the accused. And I will forever remember and be humbled by the victims we assisted and their loved ones," Wilson said.

Wilson did not mention any future plans except to that she is looking forward to the next chapter of her life with her children and grandchildren.
